Bounced Messages

List Menu

Email sent to an address on your list may be returned for any of several reasons. The most common are misspelled email addresses, out-of-date addresses, and full mailboxes. Read the bounce message to determine the reason that the message was returned.

A misspelled address will cause mail from the list to either go to the wrong person, or to be returned to you as the list owner. Out-of-date addresses must be removed. Misspelled addresses can be corrected, or removed from the list.

  1. Read and save the bounce message - it contains the questionable address.
  2. Remove the address from the list
  3. Send a test message directly from your personal account (or from a special account) directly to the address that you think is correct. Ask the person to verify that they wish to be added to the mailing list.
  4. Add the validated address to the list

Most internet companies set limits on the amount of disk space that each email account may use. When a mailbox is full, the company rejects any additional messages.

  1. Save the bounce message - it contains the address.
  2. Remove the address from the list
  3. If you wish, you may add the address back to the list after waiting at least a day for the subscriber to clean out the mailbox.
  4. Addresses of mailboxes that are continually full should be removed from the list.
